Panels are won and lost on the 3 to 5 short answers you give over the course of an hour, not on the bio you wrote in the conference program. The answer that goes viral, the line the moderator quotes back to you, the moment the room actually leans in — these are 30-to-60-second windows you can absolutely rehearse beforehand. Speakfect is the practice room you step into the night before to train those windows.

Why panel prep is different from talk prep
A keynote is a prepared monologue you control. A panel is a sequence of unprepared moments inside a structure you don't control. Three things go wrong on panels that talk-rehearsal doesn't fix:
- Your first answer sets your tier in the panel. If your first 60-second answer rambles, the moderator and audience subtly downgrade you for the rest of the hour. There's almost no recovery from a weak opener.
- The hard question lands on you, not the person you wanted it to. Adrenaline spikes. Pace runs. Filler words explode. If you haven't rehearsed your "I don't have a clean answer to that, but here's how I think about it" muscle, the answer goes off the rails.
- The closing line is forgettable. Most panelists give a generic "thanks for having me" close. The panelists the audience remembers gave a one-line takeaway the room could repeat.
How Speakfect's panel prep works
- Open Speakfect and pick Panel as your session type. Default coach is The Mentor for general prep, The Critic for senior-stakes panels (industry conferences, on-the-record media).
- Pick what you're rehearsing — opener, your 3 stock answers, hard-question recovery, or the closing one-liner. Speakfect drops a real prompt into the field.
- Hit record. Answer like you're on the panel. Standing if that's how the panel will go.
- In about 15 seconds: transcript, filler-word count, pace per minute, confidence score, written coaching summary in your chosen voice.
- Re-record. Three reps on the opener and three on the close will materially change how you feel walking on stage.
The 5 things to rehearse before any panel
1. Your opener (≈ 60 sec)
The moderator will ask you to introduce yourself. Don't read your bio. Have a 60-second opener that names you, locates you in the topic, and ends with one specific recent thing you've worked on — so the moderator has a hook to come back to.
2. Your 3 stock answers (≈ 90 sec each)
Anticipate the 3 most likely topic questions. Rehearse a 90-second answer to each. Not a script — bullets you can speak to. Most panels pull from your stock answers more than you'd expect.
3. Your "I don't have a clean answer" answer (≈ 45 sec)
The hard, unexpected question is coming. Rehearse the shape of your recovery: "That's a question I'm still working on. Here's how I think about it..." Then a real, partial answer. This is the difference between looking thoughtful and looking caught.
4. Your "build on what they said" line
Train one transition you'll use to engage the other panelists: "Building on what [name] said, I'd add..." Most panels are individuals talking past each other; the panelist who actually engages the others stands out.
5. Your closing one-liner (≈ 20 sec)
The moderator will ask each panelist for a closing thought. Have one ready — the one thing you want the audience to walk out remembering. Rehearse it 5 times.
Try one right now
Open Speakfect and record a 60-second answer to this prompt:
"You're on a panel about the future of work. The moderator opens by asking you to introduce yourself and share the one thing you think the audience misunderstands about your topic."
Pace target: 125–140 wpm. Filler count: under 3. Length: under 60 seconds. Speakfect will tell you whether you stayed in the time window and whether your one-line takeaway was specific enough to land.

Frequently asked
Will the AI know my topic well enough to coach me? Speakfect coaches your delivery — pace, filler words, structure, confidence. The substance has to come from you. That said, the Mock Q&A drill generates topic-aware follow-ups based on your actual answer, so the questions get sharper the more you rehearse.
What about virtual panels on Zoom? Same prep, slightly different concerns. On virtual panels your pacing matters even more — the room can't read body language, so your voice carries 100% of the signal.
Is my recording private? Yes. Audio is sent to our server only for transcription, then deleted. Transcripts and scores stay in your account.
